How you finish one season directly impacts the next. A farmer who consumes the entire harvest and keeps nothing back to sow will find the next season empty. Most of us are busy thinking about what we want to reap and rarely stop to ask what we need to sow now. Pastor Praveen challenged us to ask three simple questions as this year closes: what are we going to sow, what are we going to plan, and what are we going to do to grow generosity in our lives?

1 Timothy 6:7 (NIV)

"For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it."

Today's Devotional

You came into this world with nothing, not even clothes on your back, and you will leave the same way. Everything in between, including the job, the income, the health to work, and the skill to do it well, can be traced back to God's hand. It is easy to think, "I worked hard for this, and so it is mine." But when you realise everything you have ever received first came from Him, tithing stops feeling like giving away what is yours. It becomes the return of what was always His.

Matthew 6:24 (NIV)

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

This week Pastor Praveen said something that reframes money entirely: humans have a money problem, and it is universal. Rockefeller was once asked how much money is enough, and he answered, "Just a little bit more." That chase never ends and never satisfies. But tithing is God's means of keeping us free from that trap. It is not primarily about funding the church, though it does. It is about breaking money's grip on your heart before it ever gets the chance to take hold.

Malachi 3:10 (NIV)

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

Today's Devotional

Malachi asks a piercing question in chapter 3, and it comes with an invitation almost nowhere else in Scripture. "Test me in this," God says, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven." Tithing is ten percent of your gross income, returned to your local church, not a suggestion to consider once finances feel comfortable. It is a curse-breaker and a blessing-bringer, and it is where every act of generosity actually begins.

John 6:5-6 (NIV)

"When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, 'Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?' He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do."

Today's Devotional

Jesus already knew what He was going to do before He asked Philip where they could buy bread for five thousand people. He asked anyway, because Jesus desires to test you. Not to trip you up, but to stretch your faith, courage and generosity. A small boy offered five loaves and two fish, which was all that he had, and willingly placed in Jesus' hands. It seemed absurdly small for the need in front of them. But what you put in Jesus' hands never stays small for long.

2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV)

"Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously."

Generosity is a muscle, and muscles only grow when they are stretched under real weight. You cannot admire a dumbbell from across the room and expect to get stronger. You have to pick it up, feel the tear, and let it rebuild. The same is true spiritually. You will never grow in generosity if you never exercise it. As this week closes and Giving Sunday approaches on December 6th, the invitation is simple: bring what you have, however small it feels, and put it in His hands.
